The niqab or burqah type veil (face covering) is not a necessary nor beneficial component of Islamic life. I took this photo of myself with it over my face for a bit of a laugh, and out of curiosity. It is worn mostly in the Gulf where it is more a lingering artifact of the Saharian Desert culture of long ago.
The head-scarf itself however, is both a modest and conservative form of dress and should be respected for the purpose it serves rather than the stereotypical cliché it sadly represents today. It can be referred to as the hijab in Arabic and it includes a whole style of conservative dress and not just the material over the hair. I love my hijab. It loves me. I wear it because God asked me to (not any human being) and gave me good enough reasons.
So I personally do not think this type of covering depicted in this photo is prescribed in Islam. It is not practical. The hijab, as you can see in my little avatar, is what women in Islam wear today.
P.S. This is my first deviation and its pretty rough I guess...
You have very pretty eyes... but more importantly, this picture and your description with it depicts an important content. I would love to see more culturally-based photography like this from you.
I mean, there are some awesome artists on this site, but a lot of them just post aesthetically appealing photos and such, a lot of them not providing important content matter. But a series of photos similar to this one, maybe with some more detail, would really document the culture they represent.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
